CANICHE was born in 2014 in Mexico City. The idea arose from a drawing-based-research deconstructing comics in order to analyze their formal elements and use them as resources for abstract compositions.
After gathering a number a grids and creating new ones, various artists were invited to participate in CANICHE #1, and each one would use a different grid.
Their practice would vary between drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, performance, video, writing, sound, graphics and inmaterial art.
The magazine gets published periodically and is usually distributed in Mexico and other LATIN AMERICAN countries.
Each launch is a performance made in collaboration with artists participating to the magazine.
The CANICHE project is supported by different sources of funding for each issue.
Caniche is conceived, edited, and designed by visual artist Elsa-Louise Manceaux.
